Madang and Sepik River cruising

In conjunction with Air Niugini Holidays, MTS have scheduled
the luxurious Kalibobo Spirit to combine it with a stopovers at the famous Madang Resort or newly completed Kalibobo Village with expeditionary cruises to lower and middle Sepik River via Manam and Kar Kar Island, two great volcanic islands off the North Coast of Papua New Guinea.

The voyages begin or end in Madang, the base for the Kalibobo Spirit, a superb motoryacht that can provide accommodation for up to 16 guests in 4 double, 2 twin, 1 double bunk & 2 single cabins plus a State Room all with ensuites, colour TV and telephone. The vessel has a dining room, lounge, library, cocktail bar plus three covered decks. Facilities aboard include three tenders, a helipad for the ships air conditioned R44 Raven 2 helicopter as well as a fully equipped dive shop, water skiis, jetboat, kayaks and snorkeling equipment.

Safety and navigation equipment includes radar, depth sounder, sonar, GPS plotter, auto-pilot, wesmar stabilizers and the entire vessel is air conditioned.

In Madang you will stay at the Madang Resort to the newly completed Kalibobo Village adjacent to the Madang Resort which shares 3 restaurants, 4 swimming pools, 2 lagoons, PADI Dive facility, marina, tennis court, gift shops and PNG’s major convention centre. For golfers, guests of the Madang Resort.

SEPIK RIVER

The cruise aboard the Kalibobo Spirit is basically the same in either direction except the villages and waterways you visit will be in the reverse order. All cruises are expeditionary in nature and are subject to change depending on local conditions and weather.

Villages you can expect to visit include Perembei & Kanganaman famous for their maginficent Haus Tambarans (Spirit Houses), fine carvings and warm friendly people. The villages of Wombun and Aibom in the Chambri Lakes where you may see a drama performed by the youth at Wombun and pottery making at Aibom.

At Kamindimbit the people will demonstrate village life and perhaps a “sing sing”. Tambanum Village is the largest village in the middle Sepik, superb houses and people who are amongst the most prolific carvers along the river.

At Kambarindo a speed boat ride up the Nagam River to Mundox Village will proaboard the Kalibobo Spirit, all breakfasts in Ma-
vide you the opportunity to see many as pects of village life. Villages in the lower Sepik include Moim, Kambaramba, built on stilts in the backwater, Angoram a commer cial trading town and further down river Bien and an exciting excursion by speed boat to the Murik Lakes and village of Mendam. The last villages on the Sepik are Kopar and Wotam. If conditions permit, a visit will be made to Manam or Boisa Island and Buson Village on Kar Kar. Finally, the Kalibobo Spirit will cruise through the beautiful Madang Marine Park to the Marina at the Madang Resort.
